Rochdale Round Table would like to thank everyone who was there on the day at Hollingworth Lake Dragon Boat Race and to all the competitors that took place.

In the first year of holding the event 19 teams competed and as well as the boat racers , 20 stalls were selling goods and games were on site for children.

Mike Fern the chairman of Rochdale Round Table said " It was a brilliant day and we have raised in excess of  £12000 for Rochdale Hospice. The response has been fantastic so we are going to make it an annual event and have started planning for next year already."

The winner of the first event was a local company called H Bell and Sons Ltd with the team name HMS Bells.

Safe and secure place for children to play

Members of Rochdale Round Table, local family Lisa Bell, Lee Taylor and H Bell and Sons in the garden

Lisa Bell and Lee Taylor, whose daughter Isla has been diagnosed with a terminal illness, now have a safe and secure place for Isla and their sons Alfie, 6, and Jenson, 3, to play after members of Rochdale Round Table assisted local charity Rochdale Childer to turf the family’s garden.

Lisa said: “I am completely overwhelmed by what they did. It was a fabulous afternoon and it has made such a difference to us.

“We don’t get to take Isla out very far so being able to sit on a blanket in the garden makes a whole lot of difference.”

Before the project was undertaken, the garden was completely unusable and was unsafe for the boys to play in.

Lisa added: “When we moved to this house, the garden was just rubble and had glass and things in it so we couldn’t even let them out. Now I can throw some toys in the garden and know they are safe.”

Having a useable garden now gives the family a piece of mind and gives the young boys a safe environment to play in.

“I have never experienced support like this before,” said Lisa.

Rochdale Round Table helps many local charities in Rochdale and were contacted by Rochdale Childer to help with the project.

Lisa added: “These people need the recognition because what they do is brilliant. We can’t thank them enough for all of their hard work.”

With the help of H Bell and Sons, the garden was completed in just one evening.
